Famine fundraiser

LEWISTON — A car wash held at Getty’s gas station, 515 Lisbon St., to raise funds for the famine and drought in the East African region was able to raise $1,435 that was sent to UNICEF.

A bottle collection is ongoing at all Rooper’s Redemption Centers in Lewiston and Auburn and also at Florian’s Market in Auburn. Students at Lewiston Middle School will be creating other fundraisers; community partners are welcome to join the fundraising efforts.

Duplicate bridge

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 30 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: 1st, Luke Merry and Michael Quinn; 2nd, David Lock and Rosemarie Goodwin; 3rd, Richard Balian and Leslie Buzzell; 4th, Jeanine Kivus and Patricia Quinn.

Winners in Flight B were: 1st Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; 2nd, Claire Lyons and Helen Little. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the center.

The club also met on Aug. 31 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: 1st, Michael and Patricia Quinn; tied at second, Paul Barber and Luke Merry with Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin. ‘Spirit Within’

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free workshop to cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Connecting with the Spirit Within” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at CMMC, 12 High St., conference room H.

Presenter Marcy Covey will show how to revitalize and connect with your spirit through gentle movement, breathing, poetry and music. The workshop is part of Covey’s ongoing “Growing Through Cancer: Your Personal Toolkit” series.

Book sale

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library will hold a used book sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17, at the library, 49 Spring St.

The library has thousands of donated books for sale, from 25 cents to $5. All proceeds from the sale support new book purchases, materials and programs at the library.
