FARMINGTON — The Maine Forest Service, the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Farmington Conservation Commission hosted the first Franklin County Big Tree Contest this summer, modeled after the state contest.
More than 75 nominations countywide were submitted. District Forester Patty Cormier, along with Farmington Conservation Commission chairman and forestry consultant Peter Tracy measured the nominated trees.
In all, there were 22 winning species, and of those, four are also now the state champs.
