Adult ed moves
JAY — Spruce Mountain Adult Education, formerly Livermore Falls/Jay adult education, is now located in the basement of the Jay Community Building (the middle school gym).
Some of the offerings this fall include credit recovery classes in biology, English and math; enrichment classes include quilting, French and Spanish for beginners, tennis for novices and introduction to reflexology.
There are still math and English labs available for anyone needing to review in these areas before attending college or working on a GED.
Those with a hobby or skill to share with the community should call 897-6384.
Spruce Mountain Adult Education will be at the Apple Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Beekeepers
MEXICO — Western Maine Beekeepers Association will present a slide show and talk by State Apiarist Tony Jadczak on getting hives ready for winter. The class will be on Wednesday, Sept. 7, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Region 9 School, Route 2.
Beekeepers need to properly prepare their hives for winter to ensure survival. This class will cover the latest treatments for pests and diseases as well as tips and techniques for getting hives through the winter.
All area beekeepers are invited to attend the free presentation.

Civil War graves
FARMINGTON — The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Farmington Public Library. The program topic will be information about the graves of Civil War veterans.
Following the meeting the group will visit two smaller cemeteries in the Farmington area that have several graves of Civil War veterans. Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.
Chocolate Festival
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will hold the first Chocolate Festival and Silent Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the UMF Art Gallery.
There will be heavy appetizers, chocolate desserts and sparkling wine, with musical guests Peter Hardy and Family, Luke Pane and Mellisa Clawson and son.
There will be a silent auction of products and services from local shops and businesses. All proceeds of the event go to The Children’s Task Force. Tickets are on sale at Tranten’s and The Calico Patch in Farmington. Tickets can also be bought at the door. $25 per person/$45 per couple. Any questions or for more information call 778-6960.
Chicken barbecue
NEW SHARON — A chicken barbecue will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Masonic Lodge, Route 2.
The cost is $8 per person. O.E.S. will have pies for sale. Proceeds will benefit the building fund.
9/11 memorial
LIVERMORE FALLS — A memorial ceremony to commemorate 9/11 will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Union Park.
Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls fire departments, Jay and Livermore Falls police, local military, and members of the Jay VFW, Amvets and American Legion will be in attendance. All are invited.
Grief support
WILTON — Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice will offer fall grief support throughout the Lewiston-Auburn, Norway, Bridgton and Farmington-Wilton areas.
The program for Grieving Children and Teens will be held in Lewiston beginning Sept. 20 and in Wilton beginning Sept. 15. Please call 795-9462 to preregister.
Guidance through Grief, an adult grief support group in Lewiston, will begin on Sept. 20 with two offerings, one from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and one from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Pathways through Grief, offered in the Norway and Bridgton areas, will begin both groups on Sept. 21.
