AUBURN — A Turner man who died after the car he was driving hit a tree and burned Sunday morning was identified by medical examiners, police said.

Brett Pinkham, 30, of Upper Street was westbound Sunday at 2:50 a.m. at a curve on Center Bridge Road when his right front tire of the Ford Focus he was driving apparently ran onto the soft shoulder of the road. The car hit a tree and was engulfed in flames by the time emergency responders arrived, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Pinkham was a 2000 Leavitt Area High School graduate and served in the U.S. Army.

Detective William Gagne was investigating the crash. He was looking for the driver of a white four-door car that may have stopped at the scene of the crash before the detective arrived. Anyone with information about that car is asked to call Gagne at 207-753-2566.
