1. Cheverus (1-0)
There’s depth and then there’s Cheverus depth. Six different Stags scored in last week’s 59-21 drubbing of South Portland.
2. Lewiston (1-0)
Impressive all-around effort in last week’s preseason-like warmup against Mt. Ararat. The starters will play a lot more than one half against Messalonskee, though.
3. Lawrence (1-0)
Edward Little threw the Bulldogs a bit of a scare, but winning ugly in September makes coaches happier than they’ll ever let on.
4. Thornton (1-0)
Knock off Bonny Eagle in Week 1 and you, too, can leap frog five teams in the SJ Top 10.
5. Deering (1-0)
New coach, but as long as the Rams keep churning out the same kind of athletes, they will be a threat.
6. Leavitt (1-0)
Comrade Oakes says the Hornets are trying to de-emphasize Jordan Hersom’s role in the running game early in the season to keep him healthy. That’s easy to do when you’ve got Jake Ouellette and Ian Durgin to pick up any slack.
7. Mt. Blue (1-0)
So did Week 1 against Brewer still feel like a Class A game, or did the new temporary home field (Kemp Field) just make everything seem a little strange?
8. Bangor (1-0)
The season’s first “Game of the Year” comes against Lawrence on Saturday night. Here’s hoping the lights at Cameron Stadium are up for it.
9. Mountain Valley (1-0)
Falcons pretty much put to rest any notion of Class A’s complete superiority last week. They may reiterate the point this week in South Buxton.
10. Scarborough (1-0)
Red Storm pulled off the upset of the week with their 20-6 dispatching of former Top 10 resident Windham. Of course, by putting them in the Top 10, we’re banking on it not looking like an upset for long.
