Mechanic FallsWayne E. Burgess, 68, a resident of Libby Road, Mechanic Falls, died on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 11, 1942, the son of Edward and Jessie “Betty” Furbush Burgess. Wayne graduated in 1960 from Lewiston High School. He married Penny Jordan on September 16, 1995, in Poland.

Wayne was a truck driver, and worked for Hannaford for many years; and he later owned and operated his own truck driving for Pike Industries, retiring in 2009.  Wayne was a huge NASCAR fan — Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was his all-time favorite driver. Wayne loved nothing more than having a good time and enjoyed life to the fullest, whether it be going to his in-laws’ camp in Rangeley, fishing with his good friends, Bud, Jeff and Ed, or going to the races on Saturday night to watch his nephew Tyson or his good friend Darrell Moore race their cars.  Wayne also loved spending winter vacation in Cape Coral, Fla.

He especially loved the last few years with his daughter, Amy, and her family. One of the happiest days this last year was seeing his oldest granddaughter, Olivia, graduate from high school in June; and knowing his friend Darrell won the mini-stock championship at Oxford Plains Speedway.

He is survived by his wife, Penny, of Mechanic Falls; his daughters, Amy Labbe and husband, Scott, of Mechanic Falls, and Heather Burgess of Lewiston; three granddaughters, Olivia and Hannah Labbe and Emma Burgess; his sister, Nancy Doyon and her husband, Richard, of Greene; his mother and father-in-law, Reginald & Barbara Jordan of Poland; his aunt, Mildred Rideout, of Greene; brother & sister-in-law, Larry and Jan Jordan of Poland; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Pat Jordan of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Pamela Banville of Poland and Judith Akers of Poland; special cousins, Cindy Rideout of Harpswell and Barbara Kelly of Jay; 5 nieces and 1 nephew; numerous cousins; and his beloved dog Molly, who never left his side.

The family would like to thank Ed Jordan for always being there for Wayne and checking on him daily; and their good friends and neighbors the Moores, for all the enjoyment they have given Wayne through the years.
