RUMFORD — Two local men who allegedly shot off several firecrackers while police patrolled nearby on foot were arrested late Tuesday night, police said.

Officer Brad Gallant charged Andy Blanchard, 21, and Zachary Thomas, 20, with disorderly conduct at 11:30 p.m. on Hancock Street, Sgt. Douglas Maifeld said Wednesday afternoon.

Maifeld said two Rumford officers were walking along Hancock Street, patrolling the neighborhood, when they heard the firecrackers.

“They said it sounded like a boatload of firecrackers going off,” Maifeld said.

Blanchard was released on $400 unsecured bail; Thomas on $600 unsecured bail.

Both will be arraigned on Dec. 6 in Rumford District Court.

“The disorderly conduct charge was for making unnecessary noise,” Maifeld said.
