FRENCHVILLE —Carleen M. Bowie, 62, beloved wife, devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, was taken away from us on Friday, Sept. 9, while surrounded by her family at home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Lewiston on Jan. 5, 1949. Carleen grew up in Auburn, worked at Zayre’s, Job Corps and the family business, Delekto Brothers. In her youth she enjoyed horseback riding and camping. In later years, Carleen found pleasure in painting, cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, travel, camping at Hermit Island and raising numerous animals on the family farm. Carleen was an avid boater and enjoyed her time on the New Meadows River, and was a member of the Down East Yacht Club. She remained especially close and loyal to a group of friends who enjoyed their weekend boating excursions. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her first grandchild, Wyatt. Carleen will always be remembered for her selflessness, sense of humor and unconditional love.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband of 35 years, Calvin Bowie; her children and their spouses; Catherine and Billy Nolin of Auburn, Calvin II and Allison Bowie of Auburn, Casey and Chad Cote; grandson, Wyatt Cote of Frenchville; twin brother, Carl and Anita Delekto of Oxford; and sisters, Joyce and Stan Gavitt and Nancy Simard of Wells; nephew, David Gavitt of Portland; niece, Sarah and Sterling Douglass of Westbrook; uncle, Real Roux of Auburn.
She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Carmen Delekto.
Family and friends are invited to offer condolences and pay tribute to Carleen’s life by visiting her guest book at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
