OLD TOWN, Maine — A local man with a history of domestic violence was arrested again last week after he assaulted his girlfriend because the chicken she had prepared was not to his liking, according to Old Town police.
Shilo Hodge, 32, was arrested Sept. 6. The 40-year-old victim told police that “he got angry because there was not enough barbecue sauce on his chicken and he stabbed her with a hot barbecue skewer,” Sgt. Mike Hashey said Monday.
The woman had visible puncture wounds and burns on her arm and said Hodge had “pushed and shoved her several times over the past two days,” Hashey said.
Hodge was charged with felony domestic violence assault because he has prior assault convictions, he said.
Police were dispatched to the Brunswick Street house the two share at 11:05 p.m. after a 911 hangup call. While interviewing Hodge, Officer Brent Fournier noticed a phone overturned in the living room and asked him what happened.
“He claimed one of the cats knocked it over,” Hashey said.
Police later discovered the phone was unplugged from its back and Hodge was charged with obstructing the report of a crime.
The arrest last week was the second time in five months that Hodge hurt the woman he lives with over a period of several days and was arrested, Hashey said.
In April, the woman “revealed both domestic assaults and sexual assaults that had taken place over the last couple days,” Old Town police Sgt. Travis Roy said at the time. “She had several very visible bruises.”
Hodge was charged in April with Class A gross sexual assault and domestic violence assault and in May was convicted of domestic violence assault and sentenced to 30 days in jail, according to a previous story and court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News.
Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford, who is handling the Hodge case, was in court Monday and did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
After Hodge was arrested last week, he was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and later released, Hashey said.
