LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the MTM Center. Guest speaker will be Richard Nadeau on The History of The Slovak Catholic Association. Free and open to the public.

Nadeau’s presentation will highlight the history of The Slovak Catholic Association, organized on July 12, 1897, and incorporated on Sept. 4, 1897. The founders were Slovak immigrants who came to the United States beginning in 1850, eventually settling in the town of Lisbon.

Nadeau is a descendant of the Skultety and Zaydak families from Czechoslovakia. The presentation will include stories of his ancestors, as well as his trip to Slovakia. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the collection of photographs Nadeau took during that trip.

Nadeau is a native of Lisbon Falls. He was employed at the Knight-Coltex Mill as a tester of finish boards and other products until their closing in 2009. Most recently, he completed a course in culinary arts. In addition to his passion for Slovakian history, he enjoys BMX bicycle racing and takes great pride in his vegetable gardens.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event starts at 7 p.m. Refreshments to follow presentation. For additional information, contact Dorothy J. Smith at 353-8510, visit lisbonmainehistory.org or email LHS.2011@yahoo.com.
