JAY — Town Manager Ruth Cushman issued a reminder Monday that no one has taken out nomination papers to finish the two years left on the term of former Selectman Warren Bryant, who resigned in August.
Nomination papers have been available since August at the town office and are due back by 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26.
Selectmen plan to hold a special election Tuesday, Nov. 8, to elect a selectman.
In other business Monday, selectmen voted to sign the quitclaim deed for the Jay property being transferred to Regional School Unit 73.
The Jay property now owned by the district includes school buildings and 77.4 acres. The community building, which is attached to the middle school, and the bus garage were also included in the deal. However, the town reserved the right to use the room where voting is held. The town’s recreation lot and the Head Start building remain under Jay’s ownership, Cushman said.
The district now owns Community Way, the road leading from Route 4 to the community building and middle and high schools, she said. The school system will be responsible for plowing it and keeping it in good shape. The district is also now responsible for sewer pipes from Route 4 up to the school buildings, she said.
