FARMINGTON — Carol Elaine Stone, 66, of Dixfield, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Sept. 12, with family at her side.

She was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Canton, the daughter of Albert and Virginia (Averill) Viitala. She had a brief stay at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington, where she received special hospice care for her recently diagnosed cancer.

Her life was spent helping others by doing volunteer work in her community. All who knew her were touched by her genuine nature and her kind way.

She is survived by her mother, Virginia Viitala of Dixfield; her daughter, Bettina Cunningham and her husband, John, of Hudson; her son, Lincoln Stone and his fiance, Cheryl Elliott, of Dixfield; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Viitala and his wife, Brenda, of Dixfield and Gilbert Viitala and his wife, Geraldine, of Greenbush; two nephews; six nieces; and numerous cousins.

She was predeceased by her father; and a brother, August Viitala.

Her family would like to thank all who cared for their dear mother in her time of need at Edgewood. Their care and compassion were appreciated. They would also like to express a special thank you to Edna Rose Tyler for the love and friendship she gave to Carol through the years.
