LEWISTON — The city, Bates College and the state Chamber of Commerce will host a panel discussion Thursday morning about immigration’s role in creating jobs.
Mayor Larry Gilbert will lead the event, titled “Staying Competitive in a Global Age: The Role of the Immigration Community in Maine’s Job Creation.”
“We’ll hear from various community leaders who will provide insight into experiences they’ve had with members of the immigrant community and how they envision immigrants contributing for years to come,” Gilbert said in a press release.
Panelists include Cindy Talbot, vice president of Human Resources for Barber Foods, Michael Hyde, vice president of advancement and external relations for Jackson Laboratory, Chancellor Richard Pattenaude of the University of Maine System and Jeremy Robbins of The Partnership for a New American Economy.
The event is presented in collaboration with the Partnership for a New American Economy, a coalition of mayors and business leaders, including Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer and News Corp. founder and CEO Rupert Murdoch.
The discussion is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Bates College New Commons Building.
