MEXICO — Sunday School classes resumed on Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Mexico Congregational Church, United Church of Christ (the “Green Church”). Classes are available for children from age four through elementary and middle school. Parents are welcome to attend the 10 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary while their children are in class.

When the church installed an elevator last year in the area that had been an early 1900s ladies’ parlor, it was necessary to remove a fireplace mantel from that room. The mantel has now been refurbished by a volunteer and a warm and welcoming fireside scene painted by local artist Julieann Reed. The mantel, painting and an antique mirror donated by Natalie Reed have now been installed to give a message of hospitality and warm welcome to all who enter by the handicap ramp at the Mitchell Street entrance. During the Sept. 11 morning worship service Pastor Connie Insley led the congregation in a dedication of the new display.

Following the worship service, a coffee fellowship was held and a council meeting in the church dining room. The council meeting provided news of all the committees of the church, as well as an update on the installation of the new heating system, which was expected to be completed in mid-September.
