The Wilton-based Friends of Maine’s Mountains will sponsor two presentations later this month on renewable energy, presented by retired physicist John Droz Jr., of Morehead City, N.C. and Brantingham Lake, N.Y. Droz specializes in energy education and public policy.

The first lecture, at the University of Maine at Orono, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Donald P. Corbett Business Building.

The second identical lecture will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at Deering High School in Portland.

Both lectures are free and will be followed by question and answer sessions.

“Energy is one of the top three issues facing our nation financially and environmentally. I believe it is important that people have a greater understanding of how our energy policy decisions are made,” according to Droz in a Friends press release.

“There is well over a trillion dollars at stake regarding electrical energy — in addition to potentially enormous impacts on our environment,” he said.

During a one-hour multimedia presentation, Droz will discuss such issues as fossil fuels, industrial wind energy, geothermal power, nuclear power and other electrical power sources.

Droz is a member of the Sierra Club, the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks, and other environmental organizations. He has undergraduate degrees in physics and mathematics from Boston College, and a graduate degree in physics from Syracuse University.
