ALFRED — A Maine jury has convicted a former Massachusetts state trooper on rape charges.

A York County Superior Court jury on Thursday found Joseph Silva guilty of gross sexual assault and aggravated assault. A judge ordered that Silva be held without bail until his Oct. 14 sentencing.

According to WMTW-TV, police said Silva lured a New Hampshire woman to a Kittery hotel room and raped her.

He was arrested in December 2009 and indicted last year.
