On Friday, Sept. 16, Luna Madidus, a jazz ensemble from midcoast Maine, will perform at She Doesn’t Like Guthries. The band plays original modern jazz with its sound modeled after such jazz icons as Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk, as well as the “downtown” style of New York City. The two-horn quintet has performed live on Public Radio and has had airplay on WRFR and MPBN. The group is working on its first release, due out this fall. Band members are Mike Whitehead, trumpet, flugelhorn; Bruce Boege, tenor/soprano saxophones; Tom Luther, piano; Doug Kennedy, bass; and Jason Dean, drums. No cover. Guthries is at 115 Middle St., Lewiston.
