OXFORD — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday for a resolution against a citizens’ referendum that would reinstate same-day voter registration.

Resident Pete Laverdiere raised the issue during citizens’ comments, when he asked if the town could put up a sign in the town office telling residents to support town clerks by opposing the referendum.

Town Clerk Ellen Morrison said the town couldn’t do that. Because people can enter absentee ballots there, the town office is considered a polling place.

Instead, the board created a resolution against the referendum, which would repeal a new law requiring Maine voters to register before Election Day.
