Rug braiding
MEXICO — Rug braiding classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Green Church. Beginners welcome.
I lieu of a cost, participants are asked to make a donation to the Green Church for the use of the space.
Instructor will be Natalie Reed, along with her daughter, Julieanne. Natalie has been teaching rug braiding in the Mexico/Rumford area for more than 40 years. She continues, at age 81, to teach the classes because she loves to braid and loves to share the craft.

Duplicate bridge
OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 16 in the Rec building, where an eight table Mitchell movement was enjoyed.
Finishing first flight A N/S were Nancy Farmer (Norway) and Marta Clements (Woodstock), second were Jim Dickens (Naples) and Jim Dickson (Freeport) who also were first in flight B, and first in flight C, third were Wilma Johnson (Casco) and Marty Round (Casco) who were also second in flight B. Third in flight B were Jim Krainin (Naples) and John Bravo (Massachusetts). Second in flight C were Bill Tedford (Casco) and Karen MacNeill (Casco).
Finishing first in flight A E/W were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Mike Quinn (Otisfield), second were Ann and Jim Poteet (South Portland), third were Carol Correard (Oxford) and Dave Kallander (Poland) who were also first in flight B and C. Second in flight B were Priscilla Rooth (Brunswick) and Hazel Glazier (Norway), who also were second in flight C, third were Barbara Vanderzanden (Waterford) and Della Starbird (Oxford). Third in flight C were Cindy and Bob Kirchherr (South Paris).

Bean supper
NORWAY — A public bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Norway Masonic Hall, 9 Temple St. Four types of homemade beans, hot dogs, cole slaw, bread, beverages and homemade pies, all you can eat. Adults $7, children under 12 $4.
Harvest Festival
SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will have a Harvest Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
Besides the pumpkins and squash grown in the church garden, there will be other local produce, baked goods, jams, jellies and canned goods, as well as a “This and That” sale table. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m.
Throughout the day Phil Trundy will have pony wagon rides and there will be two bouncy houses, pumpkin carving and games. A giant pumpkin hand-carved by Bob Perry will be raffled off.
All proceeds will benefit the work of the church, which includes community outreach, enlarging the Sumner food bank, sending youth to summer camp, supporting children in Haiti and Africa and providing community activities. For information call Linda at 388-2263 or Merriel at 388-2472.
