GREENE — A state police trooper warned homeowners Tuesday to make sure their houses and property are secure after a burglary here Monday.

Burglaries are up in recent months as the economy continues to stagnate, Trooper Elgin Physic said Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday, a burglar or burglars broke into the home of Mark and Lori Robert while the couple was at work, Physic said. They took savings bonds, a gold chain, bracelet, ring and other jewelry, and two sets of collector’s coins, among other items.

The case remains under investigation, he said.

Physic urged people to call police if they see strange cars idling outside their homes and reminded them to be vigilant about locking doors and taking other security precautions.
