This is in reference to an entry in the Reporters’ Notebook published Sept. 17. It involved a heated exchange of words between Lewiston School Committee members Ronella Paradis of Ward 6 and Chairman Jim Handy that took place Sept 12.
I find it very humorous that Paradis would say to Handy that she did not have to tolerate anything that he had to say. I have heard, with my own ears, Paradis promote tolerance, acceptance and understanding for those with a difference of opinion.
That goes to prove my point that liberals who use the word “tolerance” are among the most intolerant among us.
In my opinion, everyone is super sensitive these days and everyone needs to get over it. The society we live in needs to grow up and stop overreacting every time someone speaks with boldness and passion.
We need to stop trying to censor what people say and the way that they say it. We are all individuals; we all have different personalities, and because we live in America, we all have the right to freedom of speech and expression.
However, during school board meetings, diplomacy and protocol are called for. Handy is very “handy” in swinging his gavel, so keep on swinging so that meetings can continue, decently and in order.
