OTISFIELD — Five area students have been awarded $1,000 scholarships and one student has received a special Book Award for the 2011-12 college year by the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church.
The recipients are:
Zane Duffany, son of Deborah Peaco of Otisfield. Zane will be attending the University of Maine, Orono.
Zebb Duffany, son of Deborah Peaco of Otisfield. Zebb will be attending Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.
Nicole Donnellan, daughter of Denise and James Donnellan of Otisfield. Nicole will be attending the University of New England, Portland/Biddeford.
Elizabeth Mahn, daughter of Sandra and Robert Mahn of Otisfield. Elizabeth with be attending Kurtztown University, Kurtztown, Pa.
Megan Wandishin, daughter of Betsy Mayo of Casco and Ted Wandishin of Portland. Megan attends Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
Leifann Higgins of Otisfield received a special Book Award. She will be attending Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church awards college scholarships each year. Money for the scholarships is raised through the Flamingos & Fleas Scholarship Sale held in July each year as well as a Christmas fair held in December. Donations for the scholarship fund also help. The late Rev. Gertrude DeCoteau and Marian Culbert created the annual scholarship more than 20 years ago.
