BANGOR — A New Vineyard man pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to one count of illegally possessing firearms.
William E. Armstrong III, 45, pleaded guilty to the charge stemming from an April indictment, according to U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.
According to court records, Armstrong was convicted in 2008 of misdemeanor domestic violence assault against his wife. In 2010, state and federal agents raided his New Vineyard residence and seized several firearms and 1,300 rounds of ammunition. Armstrong was prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms and ammunition because of his domestic violence conviction.
Armstrong faces a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He was released on bail pending his sentencing.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Maine State Police and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
