LISBON — An Auburn woman drove into a dump truck that hit a car on Route 196 on Wednesday morning, resulting in three people being injured.

Mary Perkins, 50, told police officer Shawn Kelly that she either blacked out or fell asleep while driving west toward Lewiston at 10:18 a.m. Her car crossed into into the eastbound lane and hit an approaching dump truck driven by Adam Longchamps, 25, of Lisbon, Kelly said.

Longchamps lost control of his truck and his brakes locked, causing it to skip to the left into a car driven by William McCabe, 77, of Brunswick, the officer said.

McCabe was pinned inside his car and was freed by personnel from Lisbon’s E.T. Smith Fire Co. McCabe, his wife, Catherine, 67, and Perkins were transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by Lisbon Emergency.

Kelly estimated damage at $4,000 to Perkins’ 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, $3,000 to Longchamps’ 1987 Western dump truck, and $4,000 to McCabe’s 2007 Dodge Caliber.

Route 196 was reopened shortly after noon.
