LEWISTON — Week 3 of the FLY season saw two close games in the Junior Division and a dominating performance in the Senior division.

In the opening game of the Junior Division, The American Engraving Junior Lions defeated the Sabattus Disc Golf Junior Steelers, 7-0, in a hard fought game. Ricky Cote and Xaviar Jackson totaled 94 yards with a touchdown on offense. Jordyn Rubin and Miles Teague led the defense with seven tackles each. The stingy Lions defense also featured multiple tackles by Cote, Jackson, Dylon Jackson, Isaiah Teague, Cody Tabor, Jaylen Raines, Jayden Munroe, Robert Dostie and Ben Dostie. The latter Dostie added a fumble recovery and a 34-yard interception return.

In the second Junior Division game, the Grimmel’s Gas Up Junior Giants defeated the previously undefeated Gee & Bee Junior Redskins, 12-7. The Giants were led by Thomas Brochu, Connor Kaplinger, Brndon Dube, Kayden Estes, Lucas Nichols and Gordon Beckwith. No statistical information was provided for the Redskins. There is a three-way tie in the Junior Division between the Redskins, Lions and Giants.

The Rooper’s Lions played a doubleheader, starting with a win over the Austin Associates’ Senior Giants. The Lions totaled 255 yards of offense that included an electrifying 78-yard return for a touchdown by Stefan Porter. Porter also had a 30-yard TD reception from Nick Harnden and added 42 rushing yards. Harnden added 42 yards rushing and Jared Rubin went 3-for-4 in pass attempts. Desmond Jackson rushed for 2 touchdowns as well. Defensively, the Lions held the Giants off the scoreboard with a strong defensive effort by Porter, Jackson, Harnden, Rubin, Nate Mercier, Davion Jackson, Jacob McBride, Haydn Dumont, Jordan Palmer and Julian Raines. Brock Belanger and Caden Begos led a strong effort by the Giants.

The Lions also defeated the Fournier & Sons Construction Senior Steelers. The Lions offense amassed 268 yards on offense against a Steeler ssquad that would not quit. Stefan Porter ran for 88 yards and had 47 yards receiving. Nick Harnden and Jared Rubin went a combined 6-for-8 passing for 60 yards and a touchdown. A total team effort from Julian Raines, Desmon Jackson, Jordan Palmer, Davion Jackson, Porter, Harnden, Dominic Adams, Jacob McBride, Caleb Cole, Haydn Dumont, Brandon Keith-Williams, Rubin and Nate Mercier led the defense. Raines added an interception, Palmer had two fumble recoveries, and McBride added another. The Steelers were led by Gabe Nichols, Jaznel Burns and Garrett Poussard.

The final game of the day saw the Kohl’s Vikings square off against the Gridiron Eagles in peewee action.

Week 2 of the FLY season saw two close games in the Junior Division and a dominating performance in the Senior division.

In the opening game, the Grimmel’s Gas-Up Junior Giants defeated the Sabattus Disc Golf Junior Steelers in overtime, 7-6. With the score tied at the end of regulation, the Giants scored on their possession with a touchdown run by Brandon Dube. After the conversion, the Steelers scored on their possession as well, but failed to convert the extra point after a goal line stand by the Giants. Gordon Beckwith, Connor Kaplinger, Thomas Brochu, Kayden Estes, Lucas Nichols Devin Corliss, Kenny Scales, Evan Williams and Jaiden Caron contributed to the Giants win.

The second Junior Division game saw the Gee & Bee Junior Redskins remain undefeated by handing the American Engraving Junior Lions their first loss with a close 7-0 win. The lone touchdown was scored by Shawn Jackson. The Lions’ Ricky Cote and Dylon Jackson ran for tough yardage. Defensively, the Lions were led by Jackson and Jordyn Rubin (8 tackles each), and multiple tackles by Xaviar Jackson, Miles Teague, Ben Dostie, Robert Dostie, Jaylen Raines, Alex Roy and Cody Tabor.

In the only Senior Division game of the day, the Fournier & Sons Construction Senior Steelers defeated the Austin Associates’ Senior Giants.
