The newest square dance club in Maine, the Twin-City Spinners, held its first workshop Sept. 22 at Martel School, 880 Lisbon St., Lewiston. The workshops will continue every Thursday evening from 6:30-9 p.m. The caller/organizer, Al Hipkins, alternates called tips for beginners and more experienced (Mainstream-level) dancers. For those interested in learning square dance steps, there will be another free workshop on Thursday, Sept. 29, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Classes will continue through December, with a new class beginning in February. Approximately 50 dancers attended the inaugural workshop, with many experienced dancers on hand to help out people with little or no experience. Refreshments were donated. Beginning in October, there will be a fee of $5 per dancer, with a discount for those who bring refreshments. Membership in the club is also available. For more information, go to twincityspinners.squaredanceme.us. In the photo, Hipkins takes a break between tips to chat with new square dance students Muguette and Tom Moulin of Auburn.
