SABATTUS — Nashville recording artist Jeff Caron, a Lewiston native, has gone from the Marines to Music Row and is coming home for a weekend of music.

Caron, who headlined the “Country for a Cause” benefit at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in 2007, will perform on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Sabattus American Legion post. He will also play on Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Festival in the Park, a benefit for the Dempsey Challenge.

At the Sabattus Legion post, Caron will play music from his 2007 debut CD, “Twist of Lime,” along with other songs with many local guests including Ryan Tripp, Gary Marston and Gerry LePage. The event will be a full band show with a “beachy” attitude.

On Sunday, Caron will take the stage from 11:15 a.m. to noon with an acoustic set of tropical-flavored rock and country at the daylong Festival in the Park to be held at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in downtown Lewiston.

Caron’s music, as described on his website, www.jeffcaron.net, is a blend of feelings, his love of the carefree island lifestyle and his musical influences, including the likes of Bon Jovi and Jimmy Buffett.

Caron started playing guitar at age 11 and later played in garage bands until he heard Garth Brooks on the radio and turned to country music. He left home at age 18 to play in bars in southern Florida and, in 1996, joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served four years in North Carolina and continued to play in bars in the evening. When his enlistment ended in 2000, he moved to Nashville with his wife and three children to pursue his career in music.

Doors to the Sabattus American Legion post will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show to start at 8 p.m. For tickets, $12, call 375-4058 or visit www.jeffcaron.net. For more information on the Dempsey Challenge, visit dempseychallenge.org.
