DEAR SUN SPOTS: We’re having our second annual youth activity pumpkin decorating night at our local VFW Post 3335 in Jay free to the community, ages 4 to 12 accompanied by an adult. We supply everything and snacks.

We’re looking for people to donate pumpkins for our activity night. If anyone has extras, could you please contact Jody at 897-2009? Last year was a great success, and we’re hoping the same for this year. We would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you very much. — The Pumpkin Hunter, [email protected]

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who can transfer audio messages off a digital answering machine phone onto a CD for me. Or maybe someone can tell me how to do it. — Cathy Stevenson, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with Mr. Sun Spots, a technology professional. He said that while your answering machine would have some kind of coding system for saving the messages (for example, like music being in mp3 files), accessing that would mean taking the machine apart and might not be successful. That leaves the option of playing the message into a microphone of a recording device.

Sun Spots checked with a couple of those in her Rolodex who provide transfer services, and they both agree. Playing the message into another device is the easiest way.

If you have a computer, you could purchase a microphone that plugs into your computer and record it that way. One expert said that the USB versions are relatively inexpensive and should do the trick.

Secondly, the monument on Mt. Gile in Auburn is still on the west side. Her name was M. Louise Greene. No body is buried there. — No Name, Turner

ANSWER: Readers who would like to know more about Louise Greene can read the pamphlets on file at the Auburn Public Library, as discussed in the Sept. 13 column (sunjournal.com/sun-spots/story/1086151).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I just read about the person asking about purchasing American Legion material (Sept. 5). I would suggest going to the local Legion for that information. I don’t know where that is in the L-A area, but the phone book will list it.

Sun Spots has been my favorite column for many years. Several years ago I was able to make contact with an unknown relative who put a question in Sun Spots regarding a mutual relative. Thanks for all the good work that Sun Spots does. Best regards. — Dave, Poland, [email protected]
