AUBURN — The Bates College Outing Club and the Androscoggin Land Trust will lead a fall foliage paddle on Sunday, Oct. 2.
The paddle will launch from the Riverwalk behind Festival Plaza in Auburn.
While the paddling distance is relatively short, a round trip along the shores in that section of the Androscoggin River offers an experience of the Industrial-Revolution landscape of Lewiston-Auburn, according to the land trust.
Land trust staff and volunteers will lead the guided paddle and share stories of how this area of the Androscoggin, once dominated by salmon runs and Native American activity, transitioned to a national powerhouse in textiles and shoes through the harnessing of the Androscoggin River and its canals.
