LEWISTON — Joseph H. “Joe” Caron, 86, formerly of the Ferry Road in Lisbon for 32 years, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 27, at d’Youville Pavilion, with his son by his side.
He was born in Lewiston Nov. 17, 1924, a son of David and Delcia Gagnon Caron. He was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this area. He was a military veteran, having served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
On Jan. 25, 1947, he married the former Priscilla A. Gervais, who predeceased him Dec. 29, 2009. Joe was a well-known meat cutter who worked for many years in local grocery stores until his retirement, and was a member of The American Legion Post No. 158 in Lisbon. Among his favorite enjoyments were going for Sunday drives, watching old movies, especially westerns, and he and his wife, Priscilla, attending and supporting Grange Hall bean suppers around the state, especially the one in Danville.
He enjoyed bowling in local leagues, had a keen interest in cars and, when he was younger, enjoyed hunting. He was a very loving, devoted and hard-working husband and father who will be greatly missed.
His son, Marcel, wishes to thank Dr. Kurt Oswald and his staff, the staff of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, and all staff at d’Youville Pavilion, especially on 3 West, for the care, compassion and support shown to Joe and his son during his illness.
He leaves his son, Marcel Caron, of Auburn; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla Caron; two sisters, Lorretta Mathieu and Rose Albert; and three brothers, Roland, Fernand and Robert Caron.
