Smorgasbord, band
PARIS — Jones Dance Band will play on Saturday, Oct. 1, on Church Street. The Smorgasbord Supper will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. and the dance is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for the supper and $5 for the dance.
More dances are to take place on Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29. The dance will go from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. The lunch counter will be open.
Meat raffle
PARIS — The annual meat raffle sponsored by Maine Veteran’s Home and the Western Maine Veteran Advisory Committee support was a big success. Harvey Manson of Peru won the “hind quarter.”
Nature Club
OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 9:3o a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Walmart parking lot (south side near Route 26) to carpool to Bradbury Mountain State Park. Visitors are welcome. Bring a picnic lunch. For more information call John Crumpton at 539-2902.
Animal blessing
BETHEL — Bethel United Methodist Church will have a special Blessing of the Animals service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, on the church lawn. Everyone is invited to bring their live or stuffed animals. In a short ceremony each animal will be blessed by Pastor Carol Stevens. All live pets must be leashed or caged.
Food pantry
OTISFIELD — The Food Pantry will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121. Benefit auction
PARIS — A live auction will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at the Fire Station, 137 Western Ave. Viewing is available at 3 p.m.
Items will include antique furniture, toys, household items, vintage clothing, certificates from businesses, office furniture, jewelry, brand name clothing and purses. Pictures can be seen at zip.com under The Broken Gavel.
Volunteers and donations of items are appreciated. Proceeds benefit The Families In Crisis Task Force.

Erosion course
WATERFORD — The Oxford County Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor a course in “Basic and Advanced Erosion and Sediment Control Practices” from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Waterford Town Office, 366 Valley Road.
This course provides an opportunity for contractors, such as builders, landscapers, property managers and loggers, to maintain or obtain DEP certification in erosion control practices so that they can be in compliance with legislation changes that will go into effect in 2013.
The registration fee for the course is $35 and includes all course materials and lunch. Participants may register by calling Michele Windsor at 743-5789, ext. 101, or they may download a copy of the registration form from www.oxfordswcd.net and return it with a check for the registration fee before Oct. 14.
Chinese auction
LOCKE MILLS — A Chinese auction to benefit Telstar Alumni Association will take place Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Locke Mills Legion Hall. Doors open at 4 p.m., drawings start at 6. Harvest supper
MINOT — A harvest supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the West Minot Grange, Routes 119 and 124. The menu consists of home corned beef, five vegetables, ginger bread with whipped cream, bread and beverage. The cost is $7.50 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Rummage sale
NORWAY — St. Catherine of Sienna’s will hold a fall rummage sale from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, linens and household items will be on sale for very reasonable prices at the parish center in the lower church on Beal Street.
The money raised at this event will be used to support the youth ministry’s activities for the year.
Harvest dance
OTISFIELD — The Otisfield Volunteer Firefighter’s Association 8th annual harvest dance with music by The Road Kingz will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in Otisfield Community Hall on Route 121. Cost is $10 per person.
