DOVER, N.H. — Joseph M. Landry, 87, of Wilton, passed away on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Hyder Hospice House.

He was born July 2, 1924, in Wilton, the oldest son of Joseph C. and Azalie (Richard) Landry. He received his education in the Wilton school system and was employed at the Wilton Woolen Co.

He served in the 150th Engineer Combat Battalion from March 16, 1943 to Nov. 8, 1945 in the Battle of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe, Battle of the Bulge, received seven decorations and citations and his honorable discharge.

Upon retiring to Maine for a short while, he was employed by the Wilton Woolen Co. and then G.H. Bass Shoe Co., retiring in 1984 after 30 years as a hand sewer and toe laster. He married Salma A. Maria on Feb. 9, 1946 in Rumford.

He was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wilton; the Triple Town Swinger and later the Friendship Squares and Round Dance Club. He was a life-member of the Hosmer-Edwards American Legion Post, Wilton and the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 of Jay.

He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, traveling, square and round dancing.

He is survived by a son, Tim and his wife, Suzanne, of New Market, N.H.; a granddaughter, Kathy of East Calais, Vt.; a grandson, Jamie of Newmarket, N.H.; a great-grandson, Ellis Landry; two sisters, Lora Thomason of East Wilton and Mary Landry of Wilton; four brothers, Arthur and Albert of Jay and Richard and Dennis of Wilton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; beloved wife, Salma; brother, Paul; and sister, Alice.
