LEWISTON — Robert L. Pirog, 65, of Lisbon Falls, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 28, at home in the company of his wife, Elizabeth.

He was born in Springfield, Mass., May 21, 1946, son of the late Stanley Pirog Sr. and Bertha (Dubiel) Pirog. He attended schools in Massachusetts, and received his associates degree in Arboriculture and Park Management from the University of Massachusetts.

On Nov. 6, 1971, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Peddle of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Thirty-one years ago, after an extended tour of duty in Machrihanish, Scotland, he received orders to return to Ground Electronics at BNAS and happily moved his young family back to the state Maine which they had come to love several years before.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 22 years retiring in 1989, as a chief petty officer.

He worked at Bath Iron Works for 18 years as a Marine Electrician before retiring in 2007. He had attended St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Lisbon Falls and when the parish members built their new building he was part of the crew.

To family and friends, he was known as the person to see if you needed something, because Bob probably had it, or knew how to do it, or would scout to find it. He enjoyed being able to provide a helping hand.

Bob fished and had belonged to fishing clubs in Maine and Scotland. He had honed his fishing skills with his brothers and father during family vacations on Pleasant Lake, N.H. He truly loved a good game of cribbage with his brother-in- laws from Ontario, Canada…but he insisted they had to play by “American Rules,” and his sister-in-laws’ potato pancakes were his food of choice before the marathon competitions.

Robert is survived by loving his wife of almost 40 years, Elizabeth (Peddle) Pirog; his son, who was the joy of his life, Robert L. Pirog Jr. of Jericho, Vt.; three cherished brothers and their families, Stanley J. Pirog and his wife, Joanne, of West Springfield, Mass., Gregory T. Pirog and his wife, Karen, of Westfield, Mass., and Keith A. Pirog and his wife, Robyn, of Fredricksburg, Va.; he was also loved dearly and is also sadly missed by his sisters and brothers by marriage from Ontario, Canada; as well as his numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
