GREENE — Veda S. Furbush, 93, a former resident of College Road, Greene, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 29, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her granddaughter, Julie Soucy of Greene.
She was born in Greene, Aug. 12, 1918, the daughter of Jesse L. and Theo (Buckley) Sanborn. Veda was educated in the Greene schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1936; she also attended Auburn Maine School of Commerce.
On Jan. 31, 1942, in Lewiston, Veda and Lawrence R. Furbush were married. Mr. Furbush passed away on Sept. 4, 2001. Veda was a secretary for many years at Webster Rubber in Sabattus, retiring in 1980. She was a member of Androscoggin Grange No. 8 and Senior Citizens of Greene. Veda volunteered at the Julia Morse Library in Greene for many years; she also was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian Stevens and his wife, Mary, of West Haven, Conn., Kenneth Stevens of Greene and Julie Stevens Soucy and her husband John, of Greene; great-grandchildren, Nicole Stevens Roy, John Soucy Jr. and Jake Soucy; a brother, Alfred Sanborn of Monmouth; sister-in-law, Mildred Rideout of Greene; two special nieces, Cindy Rideout of Harpswell and Babs Kelley of Jay; and son-in-law, Walter Stevens of Greene.
She was predeceased by her husband; and her daughter, Linda Stevens.
