AUBURN — Irene Y. Madore, 88, formerly of 28 Montello St., Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Clover Manor in Auburn.

Born in Lewiston on March 3, 1923, she was the daughter of Alphonse and Lucienne Gagne Bilodeau. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Sylvio J. Madore.

Irene was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston, and retired from Falcon Shoe after 20 years. For many years she served as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital. She enjoyed living in Clearwater, Fla., for 18 years, returning to Old Orchard Beach during the summer months.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, needlepoint and playing cards with friends. She was a fiercely independent woman who worked very hard to provide for her family. She was a resident at Montello Heights for two years and at Clover Manor the last three years of her life.

She is survived by a brother, Armand Bilodeau, of Tolland, Conn.; and six children, JoAnne and husband, Robert Huskey, of Dalton, Ga., Diane and husband, Marty Anderson, of Seattle, Wash., Sylvia and husband, Matthew Lewis, of Ellsworth, Ronald Madore and wife, Ginger, of Lamoine, Paul Madore and wife, Susan, of Lewiston, and Armand Madore and wife, Katy, of Rangeley. Irene was blessed with 20 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
