STRONG — Mary A. Crandall, 75, died Thursday, Sept. 29, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Brighton, Mass. Aug. 24, 1936, the daughter of Joseph Francis and Mary Carmen Casale Mulcahy, and received her education at Our Lady of the Presentation. On June 23, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles “Buzz” Crandall. He died March 24, 2003. They were happily married for almost 50 years prior to his departure.

Mary was a tireless and dedicated caregiver to her family and loved helping to raise her many grandchildren and great-grandbabies. Many others considered her as their second mother or beloved “Nana.”

She went to work outside the home to support her young family when Buzz nearly died with pneumonia in the ’70s. She was employed at Farmington Shoe, at a local accounting office, and also worked for a time for the Franklin County Credit Union; a job she truly enjoyed.

Her husband and family were her life, but she also excelled at bowling and was in the Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a 50-year member of the Pomona and state Grange. She was an active member of the Pythian Sisters and held many local and top state offices, including being a past grand chief and supreme representative for the state of Maine.

She is survived by her four children, Paula Crandall and companion, Yvonne Cote, of Strong, Jesse Crandall and wife, Debi, of Mercer, Bill Crandall and wife, Janice, of Farmington, and Mike Crandall of Farmington; also twin stepsons, Keith and Kenneth Crandall of California and Washington; four “City Kids,” Diane, Bettyann, Peggy and Paul Babbin; and “adopted” daughter, Yvonne Woodcock of Kingfield; her childhood friend and “sister,” Marie Babbin of Quincy, Mass.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; and her brother, Joseph Mulcahy.

Condolences and tributes, as well as a memorial video, may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
