PHILLIPS — The Phillips Rail Fair returns to the Community Center on Depot Street on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free; donations welcome. A model train display will run down the middle of the room, with vendors showing train models, train-related items and memorabilia. Breakfast and lunch will be available in the Legion Hall (the old depot) next door until 3, courtesy of the Legion Auxiliary.

The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad will offer rides  every hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $6 for adult, $1 for children under 13, free for age 6 and under. The popular Ghost Train will start at 6:30 to take riders through the spooky woods. The cost is $4 adults, $2 children under 13. The Narrow Gauge String Band will play at the station for those waiting their turn, and food, including macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, cider and desserts, will be available in the Pirates Galley. Ghost Train T-shirts will be for sale and kids can get their faces painted, while the brave can tour the Pirates Dungeon.

The High Peaks Alliance will have a table at the fair with information about the Fly Rod Crosby Trail, and will offer a history walk of Phillips starting at 1 p.m.

A quilt show will be held at the Congregational Church in downtown Phillips from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Narrow Gauge Quilters will display numerous handmade quilts and a beautiful hand-appliqued quilt will be raffled.

The Phillips Historical Society will be open during the day for people to view their vast collection, and the Phillips Farmers’ Market, offering local produce, baked goods and handmade items, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual Scarecrow Reunion will meet at the end of Main Street; participants can try their luck at the Wheel of Fortune on the library’s front lawn.
