MADISON — Corabel Hoover McEntee, 93, passed in peace on Sept, 29. Always with good humor and grace, Corabel raised a large family and worked tirelessly volunteering to help others.

She was born Corabel Hoover in 1918 to her parents, Cora Belle (nee Page) and Howard Lynn Hoover in San Mateo, Calif. She drove an automobile regularly at age 13, was a Girl Scout, member of the DAR and attended the College of San Mateo.

Married to Thomas McEntee and starting a family at the outset of World War II, she raised her two sons during their father’s overseas military service. In 1952, when husband, Tom was transferred to New York City, she traveled by train across the U.S., with an infant in arms and three little boys to settle in Maplewood, N.J. With her fifth son arriving shortly thereafter, Corabel managed a very busy household with great thoroughness and efficiency.

Eventually finding time to help others outside the home, she was especially proud of her work for and as chairperson for New Eyes for the Needy which organized and recycled eyeglasses for those in need. With her family grown, she moved with her husband to the Farmington area, where she continued to be active helping others.

As loving mother of Robert, Richard (Audrey), Jim, Bill (Barbara), Tom (Copey) and proud grandmother to Sharon, Sarah, Anna, Caroline and Arianne, she is further survived by her great-grandchildren Trevor, Jordan, Amilee, Emalynn and Nolan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Tom; and later her dear friend and companion, Bob Brockhouse.

Corabel will be missed by all those who loved her while her memory will continue to influence others positively as she did throughout her life.
