WEST PARIS — Errol D. Beckwith, 68, of Pioneer Street, formerly of Portland, died on Oct. 2, his 35th wedding anniversary, in Norway following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 6, 1942, in Presque Isle, a son of William L. and Alice L. (Chandler) Beckwith. At age 19, Errol met Christina McCafferty in North Deering. They re-connected 10 years later and married in 1976.

Errol was a lifelong mechanic, owning his own shop on Danforth Street in Portland for 20 years. He easily made friends with his customers and was well-liked and trusted by many.

He loved motorcycles and took many trips with his wife which included trips to Memphis and Cape Cod. Errol loved eating out and enjoyed taking trips in his car with no particular destination in mind.

He is survived by his wife, Christina F. (McCafferty) Beckwith of West Paris; daughter, Debra Sawyer and her husband, David, of Gorham; sister, Marjorie Thompson and her husband, Wayne, of North Yarmouth; sister in-law, Lisa McCafferty of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
