VASSALBORO — The St. Dom’s golf team won the Mountain Valley Conference championship Monday played at Natanis Golf Course.
The Saints defeated Winthrop in a semifinal match, 6-1. Senior Anthony Fagone took medalist honors, shooting a match-best 36. Joe Bryant, Danny Nadeau, and Cody Rodrigue followed with wins to help propel St. Dom’s to the championships. Winthrop’s Tyler Foster won the lone match for the Ramblers.
In the championship match, the same four golfers all earned victories to lead the Saints to a 6-1 victory over Wiscasset to earn their third MVC title in as many years. The win also marked the 58th consecutive win in match play for the Saints. St. Dom’s shot a 154 to Wiscasset’s 191.
St. Dom’s will begin its work in the Class C state tournament with the qualifying round beginning Wednesday.
Girls’ soccer
Mt. Blue 2, Cony 0
FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue netted a goal in each half while goalie Thia Bridges stopped all four shots she faced as the Cougars blanked Cony 4-0 in girls’ soccer action.
Forward Mackenzie Conlogue put the Cougars (4-5-1) on the board with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The junior beat the Cony (5-6) goalie to a pass from Mackenzie Hobbs to tap it in for the score.
Chelsea Newhall put the finishing touches on the game as she took a pass back from Rachel Karno and sailed it over goalie Melanie Guzman from 35 yards out for the games final score.
Mount Blue outshot the Rams 13-4 in the victory.
Field hockey
Dirigo 3, St. Dom’s 0
AUBURN — Brittany Lapoint scored a pair of goals to lead Dirigo to a 3-0 triumph over St. Dom’s in an MVC field hockey game Monday.
Lexi Noyes scored the game’s first goal, which proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Dirigo (2-10) outshot the Saints 9-5 and had the edge in penalty corners, 14-7. Betsy Noyes made five saves for the win. Jenna Fongemie stopped six shots for St. Dom’s (0-10-1).
Oxford Hills 2, Cony 0
SOUTH PARIS — Kali Dixon and Jess Murch each tallied scores to help lead Oxford Hills to a 2-0 victory over Brunswick in a KVAC field hockey clash.
Dixon scored her goal as time expired in the first half off an assist from Ashley West off a penalty corner. Murch also scored off a penalty corner about midway through the second half with an assist from Abby Angevine.
Abi Egan and Shannon Fillebrown shared time in net for the Vikings (5-4-1) earning the shutout while stopping all five shots they faced. Sydney Escoe made a pair of saves in net for the Dragons.
