LEWISTON — Richard B. “Butch” Tremaine, 66, of Auburn, died Saturday, Oct. 1, at Marshwood Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility with family at his side.

Butch was born in Lewiston, Aug. 21, 1945, a son of Wilfred and Alice (James) Tremaine. He recieved his diploma from Lewiston High School in 1979. Butch worked 29 years at BIW as a shipfitter until his illness forced him into retirement. He was a military veteran having served his country for more than nine years in the U.S. Army, which included 44 months in Vietnam. Dates served in Vietnam were from January 1967 to July 1969 and again from April 1970 to March 1971.

While in the service, he received many medals, including The Bronze Star, Vietnamese Bronze Star, National Defense Medal Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnamese Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Seven Overseas Bars and Vietnam Staff Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in June 1975.

Butch joined The National Guard in 1980, and received nine more medals before his retirement and honorable discharge in 1991, giving him 20 and a half years of service with the Army and National Guard.

On July 31, 2004, Butch married the love of his life, the former Debbie Mae Ring. They had lived together very happily for eight years before getting married.

He leaves his wife, Debbie Tremaine of Auburn; two sons, Richard Tremaine Jr. and wife, Alicia, of Hartford, Conn., and SFC Randy R. Tremaine and his wife, Cathy, of El Paso Texas; three daughters, Cindy Morin and husband, Arthur, of Greene, Christy Le and husband, Erik, of Lisbon and Candy Daniels and husband, Jeremy, of Sabattus; nine grandchildren, whom he loved very much and enjoyed spending time with, Tristen and Marianna Tremaine of Bartlett, Tenn., Travis Morin of Greene, Justin, Kaylin and Jasmin Le of Lisbon, D’Andre and Aaliyah Daniels of Sabattus and Avery Goulding of Auburn; two sisters, Jean Walter and boyfriend, Bert Sander, of Peoria Ariz., and Linda Violet and husband, John, of Tempe, Ariz.; a brother, Robert Tremaine of Livermore Falls; two stepsons, Brandon Pelletier and fiancee, Julie Kramarz, of Auburn and Marco Pelletier and wife, Amanda, of Auburn; his uncle, Felix James (Uncle Bob) of Lewiston; and his close and special friend, Larry Pelletier of Auburn.
