WEST PARIS — Alice D. Kennison of Woodstock, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 30, while at Ledgeview Living Center.

She was born on May 27, 1912, in Berlin, N.H., one of 10 children of Moses and Emma Houle Tetreault. She attended school in Berlin and Gorham, N.H. When she was 18, she moved to Maine to work in housekeeping. She also did field work for Edmond Smith of West Bethel. Later she worked in the kitchen in many hotels in Maine, New Hampshire, and Florida, including the Bethel Inn, Mt. Washington Hotel, Fir Balsams Hotel, Wentworth By the Sea and hotels in St. Petersburg and Orlando, Fla. She gave birth to eight children, including two sets of twins.

In recent years, she made her home with her daughter, Carol Kimball Cox in South Woodstock. She was presented with the Boston Post Cane on Aug. 9, 2010 by the town manager, Vern Maxfield, being the “Oldest Citizen of Woodstock.”

On May 27, she celebrated her 99th birthday with her immediate family and a card party. She enjoyed receiving well over 40 cards.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was known to many as Grammy Alice or Alice the Great. She will be loved and missed and never forgotten by all who knew her.

Alice is survived by daughters, Geraldine Luxton of South Paris and Carol Kimball Cox of Woodstock; sons, Steven Clough of Tampa, Fla., Stanley and wife, Ruby Clough, of Crouse, N.C., and Rodney “Bunny” Kimball of Albany; stepchildren, Kenneth (Jamie) and Donna Kennison of West Paris, David and Anita Kennison of Norway, Erwin (Dooley) and Chris Kennison of South Paris,  Peter and Cathy Kennison of Sumner, Herbert and Donna Kennison of Norway, Ralph and Diane Kennison of Mexico, Arnie and Kathy Kennison of West Paris, Jeff and Michelle Kennison of Sumner, Loretta Crockett and husband, Danial, of Auburn, Anna Buck and husband, Leroy, of Bethel, Helen Young and husband, Allen, of Norway and Avis Gunther of North Carolina; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special friends, Chester Brown of Woodstock, Mary Hoover and Cathy Howe of Bethel and Wendy Bertrand of Bryant Pond.

She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings; her husbands; her twin sons; son, Harry Kimball; sons-in-law, George Luxton and John Cox Jr.; stepsons, Leland Kimball and Leroy Kennison; stepdaughter, Nancy Kennison Haines; and special friend, Ida Moore.
