LEWISTON — Barbara E. Crogan-Carr, 76, of Lewiston passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Boston, Mass., May 26, 1935, to Thomas and Mary Crogan.
Barbara served her country proudly in the U.S. Navy as an X-ray technician (WAVE).
She was the first woman mail carrier in Brockton, Mass., and also was a traffic officer. After moving to Maine, she became a case worker for the Woman’ Abuse Center in Auburn.
She raised two sons on her own without any help and loved her sons unfailing.
Barbara would help anyone, taking the lead to get people what they needed. From the Woman’s Abuse Center to the Veterans, she aided in getting benefits due them.
The National Audubon Society was one way she enjoyed wild life. She loved animals and would quite often take in stray pets.
She was a member of the American Legion.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Thomas and Michael Carr; four grandchildren, Thomas Carr, Courtney LaMontagne, Mathew Faulkner and Caden Carr; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Raymond LaMontagne; and brother, Thomas Crogan.
