AUBURN — Dr. Jay Neil will hold part two of his free eight-lecture series on how to understand your brain and nurture your soul at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct, 7, and at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Auburn Adventist Auditorium, 316 Minot Ave.

Night of laughs
LISBON — Lisbon Emergency will hold a very special “Night of Laughs” comedy show Friday, Oct. 9, at Lisbon High School. The two separate shows, one at 7 p.m. and one at 9 p.m., will feature three of the Boston area’s best standup comedians who have appeared on Letterman, Leno, Sirius Radio and more.
The event will benefit Lisbon Emergency, with proceeds going for the emergency building.

MECHANIC FALLS — Members of Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Bucknham Oaks. A potluck dinner will follow the business meeting. All members and guests are welcome.
Sermon topic
PARIS — “Me an Idolater?” will be Silver Moore-Leamon’s sermon topic at the 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 service of the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris. The music will be by Renee Wales, flutist, and Forest Perkins, church organist. Wales will direct the Sunday School and child care is provided. The Coffee Hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. TURNER — The Caring and Loving Ministry will host their debut event, an inside flea market where all items are free, from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 106 Weston Road.

DAR meeting
AUBURN — Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant on Washington Street. The guest speaker is Dana Fischer from Efficiency Maine who will give information about conserving energy and decreasing carbon footprints.
DAR is a service organization dedicated to the preservation, education and promotion of heritage. Any woman over the age of 18 who can prove a direct blood line to a Revolutionary War Patriot or to someone who gave aid to the cause is eligible for membership. LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society will host a Social Evening Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the MTM Center. The society will also have a collection of old photos on display that are in need of identification. Parking and entrance is in the rear of the building. Refreshments will be served.

Alive in Lewiston
LEWISTON — Alive in Lewiston, a costumed celebration of local food, music and art, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St.
Join Lots to Gardens and the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center for the 5th annual celebration. There will be local musicians and a multi-course meal featuring locally grown ingredients.
Proceeds will benefit Lots to Gardens’ educational and community gardening programs. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, $5 for kids and $5 for Lots to Gardens’ youth and community gardeners. For ticket cost assistance, call or email Lots to Gardens.

Trick or Treat 5K
LEWISTON — New Beginnings will hold the 5K Trick or Treat Pumpkin Trail Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run on Sunday, Oct. 30, at Lost Valley, 200 Lost Valley Road.
The timed 5K run awards cash prizes for top overall female and male overall. Gift certificates for the top finishers in six age categories will be awarded. Participants and spectators are encouraged to wear costumes and additional activities include a carved pumpkin contest and costume contest.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., Kid’s Fun Run is at 8:30 a.m. and the 5k Trail Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m.
All proceeds will benefit runaway and homeless youth in the programs of New Beginnings.

Interfaith visits
LEWISTON — Lewiston-Auburn Interfaith Clergy has been holding visits to various houses of worship. The next visit will be to the Baha’i Community on Sunday, Oct. 30, followed by a Sunday, Nov. 13, visit to the Universalist Unitarian Church. All are invited.
On Sept. 25, the group visited Trinity Episcopal Church on the corner of Spruce and Bates streets in Lewiston. Rev. Steve Crowson conducted a tour through the church and Trinity Jubilee Center and spoke about the Episcopal faith.
