SOUTH PARIS — Marie T. Edwards, 102, of South Paris, died Saturday, Oct. 1, at Market Square Health Care Center.

She was born in Portland, Sept. 15, 1909, the daughter of Florence and Fred Thompson, who were natives of Nova Scotia. Marie spent her childhood years on Peaks Island, graduated from Portland High School, Gorham Normal School and the University of Maine. She taught school for 38 years in New Hampshire and Maine.

She is survived by her son, Bruce Edwards and his wife, Ann, of South Paris; her daughter, Carole Ross of Rochester, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Bradley Edwards, Brian Edwards, Andrea Ross and Kimberly Weeks and her husband, Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kaycee, Kaleb and Dustin Edwards and Abigail Weeks; a sister-in-law, Jackie Edwards; cousin, Marie Floyd; several nieces and nephews; and close friends and neighbors.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Finny” Edwards, whom she married in 1938; and a son-in-law, Harry B. Ross.
