AUBURN — Conrad R. Charest, 74, of Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, with his family by his side, after a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston, Aug. 6, 1937, son of the late Armand and Florida Champagne Charest. He was educated in Lewiston schools and was married Nov. 11, 1958 to Jeanne M. Gaudreau.

Prior to his retirement, Conrad was employed many years at Knapp Shoe Co. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Cross Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 106, where he was very devoted as a degree team member, trustee and kitchen worker. He will be remembered as the “fix-it-man.” If someone needed something fixed or tinkered with, Conrad’s name always came up as the problem solver.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Lewiston; a daughter, Collette Dubuc and husband, Gary, of Sabattus; two sons, Marcel Charest and wife, Lenore, of Lisbon Falls and Jeffrey Charest and wife, Rebecca, of Sabattus; five grandchildren, Ryan and Brad Charest, Deidra and Dustin Dubuc and Keirston Charest; four sisters, Muriel Rivard of Lisbon, Claire Dechene and husband, Don, of Oxford, Alta Bouchard and husband, Normand, of Lisbon and Alma Ouellette and husband, Paul, of Auburn.

He was predeceased by a sister, Carmel Brassbridge.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rausch and Vivian St. Onge of CMMC Oncology and Dr. Austin, Tammy (RN) and Denise (CNA) of the Hospice House for their compassionate care given to Conrad.
