LEWISTON — Emil George Hahnel Jr., 83, of Montello Heights, 550 College St., and formerly of Ware Street, died Monday, Oct. 3, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 29, 1927, a son of the late Emil G. and Harriet Grew Hahnel. He graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of 1945, and attended Bowdoin College and graduated from Bentley College in 1949.

Emil was a member of the United Baptist Church now United Bible Church, where he served as secretary for many years and worked for the Rand Corp.

He is survived by his brother, William F. Hahnel and his wife, Diane, of Chula Vista, Calif.; nephew, Duane Hahnel of Connecticut; a niece, Bonnie Hahnel Costello and her husband, Rocky and their daughter, Eliana Costello, all of California; and a special friend, Caroline Chapman of Auburn.
