PORTLAND — Thurla L. Labbe, 78, a resident of Jewell Street, Jay, passed away with her loving family by her side, Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Maine Medical Center.

She was born April 27, 1933, in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Leo and Thelma (Pratt) Liberte. Thurla attended school in Livermore Falls. On Aug. 4, 1951, she married Rene Labbe at St. Joseph in Wakefield, Mass., and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

She was very dedicated in her work outside the home, being employed at Livermore Shoe, Norwalk Shoe, and Bass Shoe. She was a compassionate and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved knitting, sewing and cooking. She enjoyed spending her summers with her family at their camp on Round Pond in Livermore.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rene Labbe of Jay; six children, Rosalie Labbe of Livermore, Wayne Labbe and his wife, Gina, of Wilton, Diolinda McGinty and her husband, Darren, of Livermore Falls, Michele Rapp and her husband, Joseph, of Jay, Geoffrey Labbe of Turner and Lisa Davis and her husband, Jim, of Jay; her brother, Phillip Liberte and his wife, Karen, of Livermore Falls; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a very special sister-in-law, Sister Claire Labbe of Waterville.

She was predeceased by her son, Joel Labbe in 2003; her parents, Leo and Thelma Liberte; and her sister, Joyce Liberte.

She was a great light in our lives. We will miss her dearly.
