AUBURN — Madeleine Rita Dube of Auburn, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, with her family by her side.
She was born in Auburn, Feb. 1, 1928, the daughter of Lorenzo Lachapelle and Cora Michels. She attended the Maine School for the Deaf, where she met her husband of 64 years, Alcide.
She worked briefly in 1945 at Shapiro Shoes, however spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to her four children, Francis, Jim, Wendy and Randy.
She moved to Westbrook in 1947, with her husband, Alcide, where they spent most of their life. In 2000, they moved to Windham, and eventually back to Auburn in August 2010
Madeleine was a lifetime member of the International Deaf Catholic Association (ICDA) and member of the Deaf Senior Citizens Club. She very much enjoyed collecting bells, making puzzles, quilting, watching the Olympics and the smell of the ocean. She also had a special place in her heart for all dogs and lit up joyfully whenever her grandchildren were present.
Madeleine is survived by her lifelong husband, Alcide; son, Francis and wife, Carolyn; son, Jim and wife, Linda; daughter, Wendy Best and husband, Jerome; and son, Randy and wife, Andrea; 10 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Cora and Lorenzo Lachapelle.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
