BANGOR — David Warren “Duke” Lint of Orono, beloved father and loving husband was joined into the arms of our Lord on Oct. 5.

He was born June 2, 1952, in Millinocket, the son of Sterling Jr. and Vivian (Haney) Lint. David was active in his community as a pastoral and eucharistic minister volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital and his local parish; he brought the eucharist to shut-ins and senior housing. In the mid-70s and mid-2000s, he was a volunteer chaperone for Christian Youth Ministry. He was active in his parish, presented workshops on protecting God’s children. He was also known as “Daffyd the Storyteller.”

He loved being a ham and doing Celtic stories for the young and the old. Many times, he would volunteer his services for fundraisers. He was also active in the Society for Creative Anachronism; he loved to sword fight and even taught it to others. He graduated from Stern High School in 1971, and then went on to the University of Maine in Farmington and in Orono, where he received his associate’s degree in criminal law enforcement and his bachelor’s in University Studies.

While in school, he worked as a park ranger at Baxtor State Park for four summers. He was then employed at the Eastern Maine Development District for two years and then joined the University of Maine PD for 26 years until he had to leave due to disability. He loved being on foot patrol, where he could interact with college students.

After he left the force, he was a substitute teacher for the Orono schools. He was known as a gentle giant. His love and passion was his family and the ability to be of service to anyone, even if it was just to take a dear friend to Bangor. His house was always open to any college student who needed a place to stay, and he often shared his Thanksgiving feast with one or more students alongside his own family.

He loved kayaking, but especially sailing and even built his own sailboat. He loved Celtic, Irish and naval history and was extremely knowledgeable about both. He was a Knight of Columbus, fourth degree in Old Town, and enjoyed brewing his own beer. Duke will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, which was occasionally appropriate.
